This Morning’s PA Announcements:

 

  • Date request forms for Prom can now be picked up in the Assistant Principals Office and B337. Tickets will go on sale Monday, April 6th.

  • Boys Volleyball season starts next week. Any boys interested in trying out for Boys Volleyball this Spring should stop by Coach Betz's room, B106, as soon as possible to pick up tryout information. Again, any boys interested in trying out for volleyball should stop by B106 to pick up tryout information. Tryouts will begin Monday, March 9.

  • Renaissance Card Distribution is today.  Make sure you pick up your card during the lunch hours.  No cards will be given out after today!

  • There will be an informational meeting on Friday, March 13th at 8:00 am or 3:40 pm in D103 for all individuals interested in trying out for cheerleading next year.  See Mrs. Quandt in B337 or Mrs. Stephens in the Girl's PE locker room if you have questions.

  • The library will be closed to walk-ins during all lunches today. Students must have a blue pass from a current academic teacher in order to visit the library during all lunches today.

  • There will be Mentor/Mentee meeting 1st, 2nd and 6th hours, tomorrow March 4th, in the Performing Arts Center, to register for the St. Louis Go Marathon that will take place on April 5th. Passes will be arriving throughout the day with specific meeting times. You must have your pass to attend the meeting. 

  • Just a reminder that we will conduct our mandated storm drill today at 10:00 AM.  

  • We would like to remind you that this week’s Point of Emphasis is: It is against the rules to wear headphones in the hallways and it’s only allowed in the classroom with the teacher’s permission.

Mentor/Mentee Meeting:  There will be a Mentor/Mentee meeting 1st, 2nd and 6th hours tomorrow March 4th in the PAC to register for the St. Louis Go Marathon on April 5th.  Passes will be arriving throughout the day with specific classes meeting times. Please remember to bring your pass to attend the meeting. If you have questions see Dr. Bass or Miss Schlatweiler in C104.

 

 

 

Little Theatre members:  Don't miss our monthly meeting after school TODAY in the Performing Arts Center.  We'll have information about upcoming events and about the election of officers for 2020-2021.

 

 

 

Calling all creatives! The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois is sponsoring a NEW student Writing and Art contest.  Students may create poems, short stories, drawings, paintings, and photographs on the topic "Justice Means..." The submission deadline is Monday, March 16.  More info is on the attached flier. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Hunter in B334.

 


COUNSELING

 

Did you know that there is a shortage of HVAC/R technicians? On March 31, Gateway Air Conditioning Contractors is hosting an event to introduce students to this industry.  Come for a hands on experience from 11 am -2 pm on March 31st at Orlando's, 2050 Dorsett Village Place, Maryland Heights, MO 63043. Graduating Seniors:

Belleville AmeriCorps is currently interviewing and hiring new members to be summer camp counselors this summer at four summer camps run by Dist 118 and 175; and we want to present this opportunity to your graduating seniors.  Counselors earn over $3,200 in cash & college money for this summer position.

We are encouraging people to apply early to ensure full consideration.  We will hire at least 60 counselors for the four camps; so we need lots of great applicants!  The application deadline is April 20, 2020. However, we encourage our applicants to apply now to receive full consideration.

 

 

 

Summer Employment

The City of Belleville, Public Works Department and Parks/Recreations Departments are accepting applications for part-time seasonal Public Works maintenance workers for this summer.

 

 

 

2020 STEM CAMPS

The Society of American Military Engineers STEP Engineering & Construction Camp is looking for 15 year olds who have completed their freshman year before they leave for camp.  The cost is $600 for the camp, but you may get help with this amount from SAME. The deadline to apply is March 16, 2020.

UMSL Bridge Program:  Provides comprehensive college preparation services to students and families in the St. Louis area.  You must be in high school, enrolled/completed Algebra I, enrolled in grades 9 or 10 and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.  They will be offering the Summer Academy, June 15-July 10 with class time of 7:45am-12pm.  Application deadline:  May 15, 2020. Eastern Illinois University is offering an English Studies Camp for high school students July 19-25, 2020.  Students will enroll in morning and afternoon courses. This camp will incorporate fun activities as well as working on their writing abilities.  The class sizes are small and scholarships are available. University of Illinois is offering two pre-college experiences this summer.  

Research Apprentice Program (RAP), July 5-25.  This program will tackle real world problems and demonstrate their understanding involving food, health, business, biotechnology, engineering and the environment.

USDA AG Discovery Program, July 5-25.  Learn how the USDA protects our food security through field trips, demonstrations and hands-on science-based activities.

Criminal Justice Jamboree

  • At the Greater Illinois District speech & debate tournament, seven Belleville West students qualified for the national tournament!  Congratulations to Delaney Holliday, Jojo Holm, Max Juhas, Isa Karathanos, Grace Kearns, Jaylon Muchison, and Jayden Touchette.  They will all compete this June in Albuquerque, New Mexico!

Belleville AmeriCorps is currently interviewing and hiring new members to be summer camp counselors this summer at four summer camps run by Dist 118 and 175; and we want to present this opportunity to your graduating seniors.  Counselors earn over $3,200 in cash & college money for this summer position.

UMSL Bridge Program - 11:30 on March 17th -- 

A representative from the UMSL Bridge program will be available in the School Counseling Office for you to learn more about free summer opportunities. Students who are interested in going to college and receiving scholarships should stop by C109 to get a pass to attend.

Eligibility: Current 9-11th grade students with a 2.5 G.P.A and have completed Algebra or in the process of completing Algebra. 11th grade students must have taken ACT or plan on taking April ACT exam.

 

 

St. Louis University is offering DCHS Summer Scholars Health Care Exploration Camp for rising sophomores and juniors interested in a future in health care.  The camper will gain first-hand experiences in the academic areas such as physical therapy, radiation therapy, registered dietician, speech language pathology and athletic training.  Campers will stay in one of SLU’s residence halls and meals will be provided. The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois is sponsoring a NEW student Writing and Art contest.  Students may create poems, short stories, drawings, paintings, and photographs on the topic "Justice Means..." Graduating Seniors:

Belleville AmeriCorps is currently interviewing and hiring new members to be summer camp counselors this summer at four summer camps run by Dist 118 and 175; and we want to present this opportunity to your graduating seniors.  Counselors earn over $3,200 in cash & college money for this summer position.

We are encouraging people to apply early to ensure full consideration.  We will hire at least 60 counselors for the four camps; so we need lots of great applicants!  The application deadline is April 20, 2020. However, we encourage our applicants to apply now to receive full consideration.

Eastern Illinois University is offering an English Studies Camp for high school students July 19-25, 2020.  Students will enroll in morning and afternoon courses. This camp will incorporate fun activities as well as working on their writing abilities.  The class sizes are small and scholarships are available. University of Illinois is offering two pre-college experiences this summer.  

Research Apprentice Program (RAP), July 5-25.  This program will tackle real world problems and demonstrate their understanding involving food, health, business, biotechnology, engineering and the environment.

USDA AG Discovery Program, July 5-25.  Learn how the USDA protects our food security through field trips, demonstrations and hands-on science-based activities.

St. Louis University is offering Summer Reading & Writing Skills Programs.  Classes are offered on campus in St. Louis as well as in Belleville.  They have programs available for 4 year olds through adults. UMSL Bridge Program - 11:30 on March 17th -- 

A representative from the UMSL Bridge program will be available in the School Counseling Office for you to learn more about free summer opportunities. Students who are interested in going to college and receiving scholarships should stop by C109 to get a pass to attend.

Eligibility: Current 9-11th grade students with a 2.5 G.P.A and have completed Algebra or in the process of completing Algebra. 11th grade students must have taken ACT or plan on taking April ACT exam.

 

 

 

St. Louis University is offering DCHS Summer Scholars Health Care Exploration Camp for rising sophomores and juniors interested in a future in health care.  The camper will gain first-hand experiences in the academic areas such as physical therapy, radiation therapy, registered dietician, speech language pathology and athletic training.  Campers will stay in one of SLU’s residence halls and meals will be provided. The camp will take place from June 7-13, 2020. Campers that are selected will receive a FULL-TUITION scholarship to attend the camp.  You must apply between January 15 and March 31, 2020. BTHS Hockey Annual Fundraiser for DASA Sled Hockey (Disabled Athlete Sports Association)  

The event is Friday 3/13/20 at the O’Fallon rink. All proceeds go to DASA from the evening.

The cost is $5.00 per person
