This Morning Announcements

 

  • Students please check the student bulletin for information regarding Read for a Lifetime. Sign up and read four titles from the Read for a Lifetime list and get a special certificate from the secretary of state. Each time you read a Read for a Lifetime book, you can enter to win our monthly raffle. Entries from the entire year will be compiled for an end-of-the-year drawing of a Kindle Fire and a set of Airpods. Check the bulletin for more information

  • October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Please join Harambee in wearing pink on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22 to support  breast cancer awareness and prevention. Let's all pull together to show our solidarity for a great cause! #West Goes Pink

  • Don’t forget to turn in your finished pumpkin to the library ASAP!  The pumpkin decorating contest ends this week and we will announce winners Thursday.

  • Attention Seniors: Senior photos need to be scheduled by November 1. A list of approved photographers can be found on the West homepage.

Wellness Check In:

Students will need to  complete the wellness check in prior to arriving on campus each day of physical attendance.You donot need to complete the wellness check in on days you are not coming into the school.

Wi-Fi buses continue to distribute school meals at their designated sites from 10:00am - 1:00pm

Meals will also be distributed in the parking lot at Belleville West from 10:00am - 1:00pm.

 


CLUBS, COMMITTEES & ACTIVITIES 

 

BW Book Club members:  Before your long weekend, stop at the circulation desk in the BW Library to request a copy of our next book, Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson.  We'll meet for (virtual) discussion on Wednesday, November 18.

 

 

Freshmen:  Are you interested in learning more about Belleville West Little Theatre?  Join us for a short meeting, meet the officers, and get a tour of the PAC after school next Wednesday, October 28 (A day), or Thursday, October 29 (B day).  Whether you're interested in performing onstage or working behind the scenes, come find out more!

LIBRARY NEWS

 

Sign up for Read for a Lifetime no later than Friday November 6. 

All you need to do to participate is fill out this form and read four books this list no later than April 2020. For participating, you get a certificate from the secretary of state, and for each book you read, you can fill out this raffle slip for a chance to win monthly prizes and a Kindle Fire or Airpods at the end of the year. Wanna Visit the Library?

  • Please fill out this form no less than one day before you'd like to visit the library. You will get an email confirmation the day before your requested date that we have space available, and that email will serve as your pass. No paper pass will be issued; just check your email for the confirmation and show up at your requested time. 

  • When you request a pass to the library for your lunch or study hall, YOU MUST COME HERE FIRST AND STAY THE ENTIRE HOUR. You will no longer be able to sign out of the cafeteria, your study hall, or the library. Where you are at the beginning of the hour is where you must stay. 

  • There will be assigned seats in the library.

  • Filling out this form is not a guarantee. Space will be available on a first come first served basis. You may fill out a request several days in advance.

  • If you request a pass and it is approved, the library secretary will mark you present in your study hall when you arrive. If you do not show up at your approved time, and you are marked absent from your study hall, you will be given a class cut.

  • If you need a last-minute pass, please have your teacher send an Hangout message to the library staff (Leigh Reidelberger, Tiffany Droege, or Kati Richardson).

  • Passes will be limited to two per week.

  • No pass necessary for after school. 

 


COUNSELING

 

Advanced Placement (AP) students:   It's time to register and order your AP exams!   Registration is through October 30th at 3:30pm.

The East St. Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated is hosting the Delta GEMS & Delta Academy Youth Initiatives Roundup Information Session on October 23, at 8:00p.m. See the flyer for more information.  

 

 

 

Medical Explorers--Career Exploration program for juniors interested in medical careers

The program will be open to all juniors who have a 3.0 or higher. The first session will be open to all students as a trial experience. After that session, we will ask students to apply to attend the last 5 sessions.  We can take up to 40 students total from both East & West. If accepted, there will be a fee of $10 per student for the entire program.

Details:

Sessions: 6, one each month from October-March

First session: Saturday October 24th, 9 AM, Zoom, 

How: All students can attend the first session on the 24th, but after that they must apply and be accepted into the program.  Students can contact Mrs. Koeneman or Mrs. Guinn for more information. 

Cost: $10 total for all 6 sessions
