This Morning’s PA Announcements:

 

  • Date request forms for Prom can now be picked up in the Assistant Principals Office and B337. Tickets will go on sale Monday, April 6th.

  • There will be an informational meeting tomorrow at 8:00 am or 3:40 pm in D103 for all individuals interested in trying out for cheerleading next year.  See Mrs. Quandt in B337 or Mrs. Stephens in the Girl's PE locker room if you have questions.

  • Due to the Illinois Science Assessment, the library will be closed 1st through 5th hours on Friday March 13th. 

  • Any football players wanting to play wide receiver, there will be a mandatory meeting this Friday at 3:30pm in D103.

  • We would like to remind you that this week’s Point of Emphasis is: Once you enter the building, you cannot have your hood up.

Calling all creatives! The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois is sponsoring a NEW student Writing and Art contest.  Students may create poems, short stories, drawings, paintings, and photographs on the topic "Justice Means..."   • Saint Louis University's Doisy College of Health Sciences Summer Scholars Health Care Exploration Camp is designed to give high school rising sophomores and juniors interested in a future in health care an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the academic programs offered at the college.

AmeriCorps Lessie Bates Davis Educational Award Program

  • AmeriCorps is distributing Educational Awards (scholarships) to any high school senior that is willing to volunteer as a mentor, tutor, or serve at any local non-profit

  • The students would have to volunteer a total of 300 hours in their community to receive the educational award

  • Students can receive this educational award a total of three times

  • We have plenty of educational awards to disburse so please send as many students as you can. This is a great and easy way for students to receive funds for their college tuition

  • Reward amount is $1,289.95

Criminal Justice Jamboree

Graduating Seniors:

Belleville AmeriCorps is currently interviewing and hiring new members to be summer camp counselors this summer at four summer camps run by Dist 118 and 175; and we want to present this opportunity to your graduating seniors.  Counselors earn over $3,200 in cash & college money for this summer position.

We are encouraging people to apply early to ensure full consideration.  We will hire at least 60 counselors for the four camps; so we need lots of great applicants!  The application deadline is April 20, 2020. However, we encourage our applicants to apply now to receive full consideration.

 

 

 

2020 STEM CAMPS

The Society of American Military Engineers STEP Engineering & Construction Camp is looking for 15 year olds who have completed their freshman year before they leave for camp.  The cost is $600 for the camp, but you may get help with this amount from SAME. The deadline to apply is March 16, 2020.

Eastern Illinois University is offering an English Studies Camp for high school students July 19-25, 2020.  Students will enroll in morning and afternoon courses. This camp will incorporate fun activities as well as working on their writing abilities.  The class sizes are small and scholarships are available. To apply, visit eiu.edu/english/camp. University of Illinois is offering two pre-college experiences this summer.  

Research Apprentice Program (RAP), July 5-25.  This program will tackle real world problems and demonstrate their understanding involving food, health, business, biotechnology, engineering and the environment.

USDA AG Discovery Program, July 5-25.  Learn how the USDA protects our food security through field trips, demonstrations and hands-on science-based activities.

St. Louis University is offering Summer Reading & Writing Skills Programs.  Classes are offered on campus in St. Louis as well as in Belleville. They have programs available for 4 year olds through adults.  These programs will meet once each week. Tuition and times vary by program grade. UMSL Bridge Program - 11:30 on March 17th -- 

A representative from the UMSL Bridge program will be available in the School Counseling Office for you to learn more about free summer opportunities. Students who are interested in going to college and receiving scholarships should stop by C109 to get a pass to attend.

Eligibility: Current 9-11th grade students with a 2.5 G.P.A and have completed Algebra or in the process of completing Algebra. 11th grade students must have taken ACT or plan on taking April ACT exam.

 

 

 

SUMMER CAMPS:

St. Louis University is offering DCHS Summer Scholars Health Care Exploration Camp for rising sophomores and juniors interested in a future in health care.  The camper will gain first-hand experiences in the academic areas such as physical therapy, radiation therapy, registered dietician, speech language pathology and athletic training.  Campers will stay in one of SLU’s residence halls and meals will be provided. The camp will take place from June 7-13, 2020. Campers that are selected will receive a FULL-TUITION scholarship to attend the camp.  You must apply between January 15 and March 31, 2020. Miami University (Oxford, OH) Summer Scholarship Program offers academically talented high school juniors and seniors an intensive, two-week program on Miami’s campus.  There are two sessions: July 5-17 and July 29-31, 2020. There are a limited number of full scholarships for the Summer Scholars Program. The deadline to register is May 1, 2020.  Students must provide a letter of recommendation, copy of high school transcript and a copy of any test scores (ACT, PSAT, SAT). Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is offering summer programs in 6 areas:  Theater, Music, Visual Arts/Writing, Educational , Science and Dance. Society of Women Engineers at Missouri S&T Lock In : Junior and Senior girls can apply. The applications will be closing in a few weeks, and the lock-in is scheduled April 3-5. This is a great opportunity for girls to see what the school has to offer, meet girls who may become mentors, ask questions, and have a good weekend in STEM. BTHS Hockey Annual Fundraiser for DASA Sled Hockey (Disabled Athlete Sports Association)  

The event is Friday 3/13/20 at the O’Fallon rink. All proceeds go to DASA from the evening.

The cost is $5.00 per person
