This Morning’s PA Announcements:

 

  • It’s time for the book fair at the BW library! Shop the fair in person today through Friday. Walk-ins welcome during all lunch hours.

  • Attention Seniors who got their senior photo taken by approved photographers: The senior section of the yearbook has been printed and is hung up on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors. Stop by one of these places this week to check your photo! If your name is misspelled or your clubs are listed incorrectly, fix it directly on the paper. If your photo is missing, see Mrs. Short immediately in B314. The senior section will be taken down Friday and all corrections will be made! This is the only way to ensure all photos are properly placed in the yearbook, so make sure you check!

  • Students who signed up to take the ASVAB, the test is TODAY!  If you have not already done so, please report to B113 immediately.  Please note - only students who signed up in ADVANCE will be allowed to test. 

  • Please keep in mind that we ask you to be in dress code, no hoods or coats on, no ear buds in the hall,  be in class and on time and properly displaying your school ID.

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Pre-order your 2019-2020 yearbook now! Order forms were mailed home last week. You can also find them outside of the yearbook office, or you can order online by clicking on the yearbook banner on the Belleville West Homepage. Pre-ordering your yearbook is the only way to guarantee you receive a book! Have questions? See Mrs. Short in B314

SENIORS:  GIVE YOURSELF AN EARLY CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!!  

Spaces are available in Cooperative Education for next semester.  This program offers a 3-hour school schedule, employment assistance, and credit for working!  You cannot officially enroll until you see Mr. Caswell in B-235.

Congratulations to Gini Goodrich, Claire Howell, Elise Moore, and Natalie Reed on being nominated to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar.

Congratulations to Gabby Holtrop on her signing and commitment to play soccer at Jacksonville University. 

Congratulations to Maxwell Juhas on being named as a Semifinalist in the 2019-2020 Coca-Cola Scholars Program.  

Congratulations to Delaney Holliday on earning the lead role in the 2020 All State Production of Aida through the Illinois High School Theatre Festival.

 

 

 

Scholarships in the Spotlight

 

Science Ambassador Scholarship

  • A full–tuition scholarship for a woman in science, technology, engineering, or math

  • You must be a high school senior and you must film a three–minute video of yourself explaining a STEM topic you're passionate about

  • Reward amount is a full-tuition scholarship

  • Deadline December 9, 2019

ACS Scholars Program

 

Hair Bow Company Scholarship

 

Chad Wood Memorial Scholarship

  • Scholarship is open to all graduating high school students who reside in the Village of Swansea, Illinois at the time of the March 20, 2020 application deadline, and/or who have resided in the Village of Swansea for at least three of the past five years immediately prior to the March 20, 2020 application deadline

  • Applicant must be a student who has good moral character and has demonstrated a commitment to the concept of community service and volunteerism

  • Must submit a 350-500 word essay related to “Service Above Self”

  • Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale or a 4.0 or higher on a 5.0 scale

  • Must submit one letter of recommendation

  • Reward amount is $2,500

  • Deadline March 20, 2020

 

 

SCHOLARSHIP Opportunity for SENIORS

The Busey Bank Community Scholarship Program's goal is to assist graduating high school seniors in continuing their education beyond high school at a university, college, trade, or vocational school. The scholarship award amount is $2,000 per year for four years of full-time enrollment.

If interested in this opportunity, submit your application, cover letter, and references to Mr. Solomon by January 31, 2020.

 

 

 

TEST SCORES:

SAT scores from the school-wide testing day in April will be included on transcripts unless you notify the registrar that you opt out of including test scores on the transcript. . Other test scores from National SAT and ACT test dates may not automatically be included. Students should review their transcript to determine if all needed test scores are included prior to sending transcripts. If you determine that a score is not on your transcript and you would like it to be,  please stop by the counselors’ office and we will see if we can assist you.
